Regarding the ban on women in combat, and my disinterest in attaining equal rights to commit genocide: equality is not central to my feminism. I am against oppression. I am not interested in an equality that facilitates oppression. If you support militarism and other oppressive institutions in the interest of gender equality, we are not on the same team.

“We (Lesbian Feminist Liberation) found out there were plans to have a transvestite as part of the entertainment for the 1973 Gay Pride rally in Washington Square following the march and we decided to make a statement critical of transvestites…we decided we were going to stand up on that stage and tell everybody what we thought.  We stayed up the whole night before the rally and typed up this little statement.  We thought it was very important.  You see, we were creating theory at the time.” Jean O’Leary, founder of Lesbian Feminist Liberation, later the first president of the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF)

“The transgender community was silenced because of a radical lesbian named Jean O’Leary, who felt that the transgender community was offensive to women because we liked to wear makeup and we liked to wear miniskirts.  Excuse me! It goes with the business that we’re in at the time! Because people fail to realize that -not trying to get off the story -everybody thinks that we want to be out on them street corners.  No we do not.  We don’t want to be out there sucking dick and getting fucked in the ass.  But that’s the only alternative that we have to survive because the laws do not give us the right to go and get a job the way we feel comfortable.  I do not want to go to work looking like a man when I know I am not a man” Sylvia Rivera

A case could be made that we should have included transvestites rights but I don’t think that gay people wanted to be identified with that.  We were trying to get away from that image.  And we were trying to get the bill passed.  So the transvestites were excluded from the bill and they never got reinstated.” Jean O’Leary

“I thought free loving was the thing, I found it doesn’t pay the rent…During the daytime they all call us fags and freaks.  At night I get even.  I freak on them.  I make them pay for all the insults they gave me.  I can have a nice conversation with them, give them words of wisdom.  But I’m getting back at them. My way.” Marsha P Johnson

Many of you guap@s may be heading out to Atlanta this week to partake in the Creating Change conference.

We can’t ask you not to go. However, remember the oppressive history of our community.

When you are in Atlanta, look around and ask yourself (and everyone in charge) where Sylvia and Marsha are? Where are their daughters, sons, and children? Because change isn’t possible if we do not center it on the most marginalized.

“One person, a MAN, Sylvia [Riviera], gets up and causes a ruckus.”

Also, critical reminder: remember that Atlanta’s “Feminist” Women’s Health Center, which asks for donations at Creating Change, is openly and proudly transmisogynist whilst offering hormones to trans men.

I’m not hating on the fact that they offer hormones to trans men, though a “women’s” health center shouldn’t be serving *men* and not *women*.

so, you might wanna know that if you are going to HRCing, er, Creating Change for Cis White Gay Men And Maybe Some Lesbians, they’re gonna ask you for money and you damn well better say hell no.

ps: if you want to support the basic right to abortion on demand in metro Atlanta without supporting misogyny and shameless transphobia, consider giving your $$$ to the WIN Fund instead. thanks. please support your local abortion fund, btw.

Movie Screening: “Precious Knowledge” in Defense of Ethnic Studies.

October 12 is the National day of solidarity with those defending Ethnic Studies in Arizona.Faces of Feminism at Georgia State, as well as other Atlanta organizers are hosting this film screening and fundraiser for the Raza Defense Fund. The film screening will be at HURT PARK at Georgia State. Please being blankets and chairs!

What is the Raza Defense Fund? - Two teachers, Sean Arce and Jose Gonzalez, are being sued for defamation of character by another Tucson teacher John Ward. Arce and Gonzalez have been instrumental in fighting to defend Ethnic Studies in Arizona, and John Ward has a lot of support from the right wing community in Tucson which is pushing for this litigation. - The Ethnic Studies program started in Tucson to help youth and youth of color learn about other cultures, but to also raise school grades. - Once this was accomplished they decided to dismantle, and BAN the books being used. Here is link to their website:http://threesonorans.com/raza-defense-fund/ Everyone is invited! Family friendly! *Refreshments will be provided*

yo white atheists, listen the fuck UP

i don’t care how oppressive you think religion is.

but the moment you start FORCIBLY UNDRESSING MUSLIM WOMEN, you have a serious fucking misogyny problem.

you call your own women whores for not covering up enough, and then you tell brown women that they have no self respect for wearing too much.

you are worse than the western christians who preach hate and islamophobia, because at least they don’t try to cover up their prejudice!  you pretend to be good people and good men.  you pretend to be for logic and equality.  and then you demand that brown women strip down for you.

this is why i will never fucking align myself with atheism.

you all make me sick.

WoC sex positivity! Signal boost and add to your list

pb-n-pineapples:

Hey everyone,

So recently with all the laci green stuff going on, I saw a lot of people asking for WoC or PoC who talk about sex positivity etc and vloggers/youtube personalities.

From the top of my head I could only think of this tumblr, run by an awesome “fierce-haired Peurto Rican sexologist” (in her own words and she’s certainly all that and more!) so I reached out to her, and she sent me a really kind answer which I am publishing.

Please feel free to signal boost and add your favorite sex positive websites run by (or geared towards) WoC, QPoC or just PoC in general.

Thanks. Hope this helps =)

hi! thanks for reaching out! yes there are TONS of WOC sex educators, sexologists, etc. Some of my favs and who I know personally include:

Arielle Loren who also wrote this post on Black women teaching ppl about sex.

Nicole Clark

Advocates for youth My Sistah’s health educators do some vlogging

HomeGirl.TV I was the only sexologist giving advice but advice by other WOC def represented as we are the focus. It’s a social networking site so folks will have to log in/join to see vids. But one that is open to viewing is this one abtpartner not wanting to wear condoms.

The only vlog I’ve done was on being an abortion doula b/c i don’t have and can’t afford the technology to do it as often! my website is under construction but when it’s up i have a part re: POC writing on sex.

folks can always look into the WOC sexual health network on fb too!

edit: she put up a link on her own tumblr too. So I am going to add this here, just so people can follow responses and resources on both the posts. If responses start coming through, I’ll be sure to reblog it.

Starting now, Laci Green no longer exists in the small universe that is my blog.

Laci Green makes me feel disempowered and voiceless as a fat person. For the good of my own mental health I just can’t give a fuck about her anymore. There are plenty of posts (from *gasp* ACTUAL REAL LIVE FAT PEOPLE! WHO, GUESS WHAT LACI GREEN, CAN TALK ABOUT THEIR OWN EXPERIENCES WITHOUT YOU SPREADING MISINFORMATION THAT ACTUALLY MAKES LIFE HARDER ON FAT PEOPLE!) detailing why she sucks. But I’m staying out of this one as of now.

I’m so into reclaiming “obese” right now. If “fat” has horrible connotations, “obese” has nightmarish connotations. Reclaiming words gives me such a literal boner. SO MUCH POWER. SO MANY TABOOS. SO MANY ASSHOLES DISGUSTED IN ME. I LOVE IT.

Please feel free to email transhealth@feministcenter.org to ask them why they don’t support AMAB trans individuals, the people who need trans-friendly health services the most.

oh my fucking god and she posted that gif (that misogyny magically goes away if a woman has a penis… OH WAIT IT ACTUALLY WOULD GET WAY FUCKING WORSE) just a few posts after reblogging “some women have penises”

lacigreen you are terrible

idk i guess you think you get to pick and choose when you acknowledge that trans women exist? or are trans women just so unimportant to you that you can so quickly forget about them?
